Happy Juice Cover
This is a short play around 90-120 minutes written specifically for community theatre groups who are looking for play with only one set, 16 characters of which 10 are female parts, several of whom are idea for mature actors, which is precisely the mix most theatre groups seem to be composed of.
The plot revolves around Serena, a part Spanish and part Scottish gypsy who travels Europe in a caravan and arrives in a small Scottish village where she immediately excites the locals as they try to figure her out. Some take an instant dislike to her, whilst others enjoy her company and see her as a breath of fresh air.
Serena sells herbal remedies that help some of the ladies with arthritus and other ailments, but her most bewitching potion is the ‘Happy Juice’ that promises eternal happiness on the condition the purchaser needs to give up the one thing that is most important to them.
The question is, do any of the village folk give up that which is most important to them to find their happiness, or is Serena destined to move on?
This is a light-hearted play with a serious message; happiness comes to those who really look deeply into themselves and discover what it is that holds them back from being happy, however the play is written in a fast moving and humorous way, with plenty of scope for extra laughs as the actors try out their best Scottish accents.
Is this a play worth performing? Yes, absolutely! Most theatre groups struggle to find contemporary plays that don’t force large parts of their predominantly female cast to assume masculine roles. And at the price, only a few dollars from Amazon, this is a play that could easily be customised without much effort to suit the needs of any audience.
